Thermals
Don’t scrimp on thermals. They are essential for ensuring that you are warm and comfortable throughout your holiday. If you get your thermal base layer right, you are much more likely to stay warm and cosy while out and about.
There are various types of thermals on the market, but the merino wool ones are by far the best. They are a little more expensive than their basic counterparts, but they are a lot warmer and much more effective.
For family members of all ages, it is best to get a long-sleeved vest and trouser set of thermals, as these are most effective at keeping your warm.
Middle layer clothes
You will need to wear something between your thermals and snowsuit. There will be times when you will want to slip off your snowsuit, such as when you are in a restaurant or bar. So it is important that you have comfortable and warm clothes on underneath.

Gloves
Although you will be provided gloves with your snowsuit, it is a good idea to bring a pair of extra gloves along with you to wear underneath. As this will help to keep your hands warm. This is especially important for young children, as they tend to get cold easily.
Snood or balaclava
This is one of the most important things not to forget. If you plan on taking a sledge ride or spending time out in the snow, then a snood or balaclava is an absolute must.
Don’t pack a scarf instead, it won’t protect your neck, in the same way. A snood or balaclava can also be pulled up over your nose and mouth to keep your warm and cosy.
Thermal and regular socks
Pack enough regular socks for each day you are away, these can be worn under your thermal socks and around your accommodation.
It is also important to pack two or three pairs of thermal socks to go over the top of your regular socks. This will help to prevent your feet getting cold or wet. The best type of thermal socks to pack are merino wool ones, as they keep you warm even if they get wet.
Hat
Don’t forget to pack a thick hat. Most of your body heat escapes out of your head; that is why wearing a hat is essential. Hats that are made of fleece or wool are ideal as they are great insulators.
And if you dress warmly in all this gear, you will have a wonderful trip in Lapland, Finland.
